Assistant Professor

Charalambos Dermatis was born in Alexandroupolis in 1969.
He is a visual artist-curator of exhibitions and publications and Assistant Professor at the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art of the University of West Attica. He graduated with honors in two integrated Master’s degrees from the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), Painting (1988-1994 N. Kessanlis workshop) and Engraving (1995-2013 M. Arfaras workshop). In 1993 he attended Industrial Design courses at the Academie Royal des Beaux Arts (Brussels, Belgium) with a scholarship from the I.K.Y. and in 1997-1998 he attended Engraving and Computer Graphics at the Univesitat Hildesheim (Hanover, Germany) with a Bosch scholarship.He has been awarded the Heineken Art First Prize (1993), the Bosch Gallery First Prize (1996), the Bank of Cyprus Art Second Prize (1999) and the VW Beetle Art Third Prize (1999). From 1998 to 2023 he worked in education as a research associate at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), the Research University Institute of Mental Health (Ε.Π.Ι.Ψ.Υ) and the O.A.E.D. From 2009 to 2012 he was co-founder and Artistic Director of the cultural space The Art Foundation (t.a.f).and from 2007 to 2012 he was the Curator of exhibitions at the cultural space Vitrina in Alba.
In 2008 he designed and organized the international residency ‘Open Art’ with the participation of 100 artists on the island of Onira in Evia. From 2001 to date, she has inspired and edited the art publications OPEN ART (2001), Hillside Press, Outline of Life (2003), E.Π.Ι.Ψ.Υ Publications, A&Ω (2005), published by the General Secretariat for Youth, Talento (2009), Hillside Press.  He has presented his work in fifteen solo exhibitions-presentations and in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
