Course Description
The course consists of lectures, which cover the following subjects:
- Introductory concepts, risk, accident at work, principle of employer responsibility
- Institutional framework, National and European legislation, legislative framework for health and safety at work – Obligations and rights of employers and workers
- The role of safety technician and doctor at working places, working inspection body
- Assessment of Working Risk
- Materials Safety Data Sheets
- Risks from fire, explosion, active and passive fire protection
- Physical factors (vibration, noise, thermal environment, electromagnetic radiation, light)
- Ergonomic of workplaces and work equipment, workplace specifications, radiation and computer screens
- Work-related musculoskeletal disorders, work at height
- Hazards from technical equipment and electrical current,
- Sick building syndrome and seasonal flu
- Chemical and biological agents as work hazards
- Standard phrases for risk and precautions phrases
- Stress Syndromes, Burn-out, Mobbing
- Prevention and Protection of employees – Mean of personal protection
- First aids knowledge.
The Scope of the Course and Objectives
The Scope of the Course
Through Greek and European legislation, this course will prepare and inform future professional conservators about the risks involved with the profession and provide the appropriate qualifications to assess and be able to propose appropriate measures for their prevention, control and evaluation.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide in-depth knowledge of the basic and individual characteristics of accident risks at work, the methods and techniques of dealing with and managing the risks of accidents at work. It also aims present the broad legislative framework defining safety and health at work, as well as to inform students about the current legislation in Greece (PPP17/1996 Official Government Gazette 10/A/96 C., r.7, para. 7) and the European Union.

Language of evaluation: Greek
Students’ evaluation (100%):
I. Written final exam (50%) that includes:
– Multiple choice questions
– Critical open-ended questions.
II. Presentation of individual work (50%)
