Georgios Mastrotheodoros

Georgios P. Mastrotheodoros graduated from the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art (CAWA, former TEI of Athens, 2006), holds an MSc in “Chemistry and Technology of Materials” (Department of Materials Science & Engineering, University of Ioannina/UoI) and a PhD from UoI (Thesis title: “Pigments and other materials of post-Byzantine painting “, Department of Materials Science & Engineering, UoI, 2016). He was awarded twice post-doctoral scholarships by the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY, February 2017 – August 2018 & February 2020 – February 2022) and worked as postdoctoral researcher for the Department of Materials Science & Engineering (UoI, March 2022 – May 2023). From the academic year 2018-19 until April 2023 he worked as a contractual / adjunct teaching staff in the CAWA department (School of Applied Arts and Culture, West Attica University), and since May 2023 serves as an Assistant Professor in the same department. His research interests are mainly focused on the study and conservation of portable (and occasionally monumental) paintings with an emphasis on religious panel paintings (“icons”), as well as on the study of primary art technology sources such as the Dionysius of Fourna “Hermeneia”. He has presented numerous papers at national and international conferences and published several articles in international scientific journals and conference proceedings.
