Περιεχόμενο Μαθήματος

Δεκάδες φυσικές ανόργανες και οργανικές ύλες χρησιμοποιήθηκαν κατά καιρούς ως χρωστικές – βαφές, ενώ ευρεία εφαρμογή γνώρισαν -ήδη από του προϊστορικούς χρόνους- και ορισμένα συνθετικά παράγωγα (π.χ. Αιγυπτιακό κυανό, λευκό του μολύβδου κ.λπ.). Ο αριθμός των συνθετικών χρωστικών αυξήθηκε σταδιακά στο πλαίσιο αλχημιστικών πρακτικών και υπερδιπλασιάστηκε κατά τον 19ο αιώνα λόγω της ανάπτυξης του τομέα της χημικής σύνθεσης. Μέσα από το μάθημα αυτό οι φοιτητές/τρίες θα γνωρίσουν τα είδη χρωστικών και βαφών που χρησιμοποιούνται από την αρχαιότητα στην κατασκευή και δημιουργία αντικειμένων, τον τρόπο κατεργασίας σχετικών πρώτων υλών και τις μεθόδους συνθετικής παραγωγής χρωστικών, αλλά και τα προβλήματα που μπορεί να δημιουργηθούν από την λανθασμένη χρήση-ανάμειξη υλικών. Τέλος θα διδαχθούν τη μεθοδολογία ανάλυσης χρωστικών και βαφών αλλά και τον τρόπο δειγματοληψίας από διαφορετικά αντικείμενα, προκειμένου να προβούν σε αναλύσεις.

Μαθησιακα Αποτελέσματα

Σκοπός του μαθήματος είναι η εκτενής ιστορική αναδρομή και η παρουσίαση των βασικών τομέων εφαρμογής των χρωστικών και βαφών (ζωγραφική, διακοσμητική).

Μέσα από σειρά διαλέξεων οι φοιτητές/τριες θα γνωρίσουν την προέλευση και τα στάδια κατεργασίας φυσικών πρώτων υλών για την παραγωγή χρωστικών, καθώς και τις διεργασίες παρασκευής τεχνητών χρωστικών (λαμβάνοντας υπόψη τις πρωτογενείς πηγές, ήτοι την αρχαιοελληνική, λατινική, μεσαιωνική και μεταγενέστερη τεχνική βιβλιογραφία). Ιδιαίτερη αναφορά γίνεται στις φυτικές και ζωικές οργανικές βαφές και στις χρωστικές τύπου λάκας. Παράλληλα, θα παρουσιαστούν τα ζητήματα συμπεριφοράς, συμβατότητας και ανάμιξης χρωστικών, καθώς και οι μηχανισμοί αλλοίωσης/διάβρωσης και αποχρωματισμού τους. Τέλος, θα πραγματοποιηθούν επιδείξεις ενδεικτικών μεθόδων κατεργασίας φυσικών πρώτων υλών και παρασκευής συνθετικών χρωστικών.
